To improve the quality of your basic bluebook citations consistently apply the following rules:
Abbreviating Case Names
If a citation is part of a textual sentence, abbreviate only &, Ass'n, Bros., Co., Corp., Inc., Ltd., and No.
If a citation is part of a citation sentence abbreviate all words listed on Table T.6.
Listing Reporters of State Cases
When citing a decision from a state court to a court of that state, list the official, regional (if available), and unofficial reporters of that decision, in that order.
When citing a decision from a state court to a federal court or out of state court, list only either the regional (if available) or unofficial reporter of that decision.
Noting Name of Highest Court
When citing a decision from the highest court in a jurisdiction, do not include a reference to that court, when submitting the citation to a court in that jurisdiction.
Append Subsequent History
Append all subsequent history after the initial citation, except for denials of certiorari that are more than two years old, history on remand or decisions later withdrawn.
